Physical Education plays an important role in a child's overall development and is required under N.Y. State Law. It develops children physically, socially, emotionally, and mentally through a variety of activities and challenges. At P.S. 119 your child will participate in team, individual, cooperative, and lifetime exercises and activities. We believe that problem solving, sportsmanship, and peer interaction are of paramount importance for your child's growth and success in becoming college and career ready.
Student performance in P.E. class is based on the student's skill, participation, effort, interaction with others, sportsmanship, being prepared, and behavior. All students are expected to follow all the rules at all times to ensure everyone's safety.
N.Y. State Learning Standard #2 for Physical Education focuses on safety. Considering that your child will be participating in a variety of physical activities during class, proper clothing and sneakers are required to reduce the risk of injury and ensure their safety.
If your child needs to be excused from Physical Education, he/she must have a note. A note from a parent is only good for one class day. If your child is excused from P.E. class for more than one day, a doctor's note is needed. A doctor's note is also needed to clear the student so he or she can return to participating in physical activities again. A note to miss P.E. class also prevents a student from participating in activities during his/her lunch period.
I look forward to a wonderful school year with your children! Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Maguire
